About the event
Please Join the Mass Tort, Multi-District Litigation, and Class Action Practice Group of the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. for a fast-paced panel discussion about Article III standing in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in TransUnion v. Ramirez. What sort of injuries must plaintiffs allege to successfully invoke federal court standing? How are courts deciding standing issues in cases brought under federal consumer protection statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Video Privacy Protection Act, and other statutes? What about common law claims? When and under what circumstances would parties want disputes brought in other forums, whether state court, arbitration, or otherwise, and what non-jurisdictional factors are influencing forum selection? The panel will include a lively discussion among private practitioners from both plaintiff and defense perspectives, with expert input from an Article III judge who is deciding these issues.
We are thrilled to be joined by the Honorable Eric C. Tostrud, U.S. District Court Judge, District of Minnesota, and former professor on subject matter jurisdiction issues, along with highly experienced MDL, Mass Torts and Class Action practitioners Jeffrey P. Justman of Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP and Kate M. Baxter-Kauf of Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP, who will work together to present perspectives across the bar and bench. Abou B. Amara, Jr. of Gustafson Gluek PLLC will moderate this discussion and provide important context for the panelists and audience. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panel, and 1.0 general CLE credits will be sought.
This is an in-person event to be held at Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP, Mill City Room, Fourth Floor, 100 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55401 from 4-5 PM, with a happy hour to immediately follow in the same location.
